Personality:
Cindy is a great rabbit! He's litter-box trained and a very neat and tidy boy. When we adopted him in January 2022, the rescue misgendered him as a "her" (apparently this is quite common). There's a strategic brown dot above his mouth, so the name Cindy Pawford was a perfect fit. Even after we (the vet) discovered "she" was actually a "he," the name had already stuck. When he feels at home, safe, and comfortable, Cindy is prone to some epic binkies and zoomies! Cindy's been a wonderful family pet. He doesn't like being handled or picked up, but does enjoy being petted and will "purr" to indicate as much.
Cindy is married to Chilly. In November 2022, a co-worker found Chilly abandoned in a parking lot on the coldest week of the year (single digits), so we named her "Chilly" to honor her survival skills and toughness. We don't know too much about Chilly's past, but when we took her in, we got her spayed, bonded her with Cindy, and she's been with us ever since. These two buns are very much in love and will most often be found side-by-side relaxing together. Chilly is pretty shy and doesn't enjoy petting or handling. But, like Cindy, she is very bright and curious, and we think with the right dedication, patience, and enrichment, she could really blossom! Chilly is also somewhat litterbox-trained – she will urinate in the litterbox, and while she tends to leave her little "cocoa puffs" around the pen area, she doesn't ever go to the bathroom outside the pen.
Both buns are free-roam and like to explore outside the pen. They are VERY food-motivated and respond well to treats, like when it's time to go to bed, they will eagerly return to their pen if a "cookie" is promised! At present, they probably won't do very well with other family pets simply because they haven't had the exposure or conditioning. Cindy was curious about our 6-month-old puppy and came up and sniffed her a couple of times, but we haven't been intentional about getting them used to each other. That being said, rabbits do sometimes get along with other pets, so it could be a possibility. Cindy and Chilly sleep all day and all night, and are active at dawn and dusk, making them great pets for someone who works during the day.
We've loved these two buns very much, but with our family situation of currently caring for aging parents and an extremely busy daily schedule, we feel like they could potentially thrive and flourish in a new home with more consistent interaction and enrichment.
